Common Loons (or Great Northern Divers in Europe) are my favorite bird! Mainly for their distinctive calls(which can be heard in the background of many shows/movies, particularly in regions where they do not live) & their black & white plumage pattern during the breeding season. They are fascinating creatures & I hope to one day see one in person. Fun fact: their legs are located farther back on their bodies, which makes them very good swimmers, but very bad walkers.

I reccomend reading more about loons from the Loon Preservation Commitee on loon.org!
They stream live from nest raft cameras throughout the year & post lovely loon cam videos on their youtube channel :]

I bought this hat from the loon.org shop & while it's the only hat I own it is also the best hat I own. Very good quality has not failed me yet. Plus my purchase supports the loons. hashtagnotsponsored

There are other loon species within the order Gaviiformes that are just as interesting. Listen to their different calls. Their DNA has been sequenced & it turns out they are closer related to penguins & even flamingoes than ducks.
